The previously reported mysterious Rayman title has been announced as Rayman Legends. More interesting is that a Wii U trailer has leaked, depicting roughly two minutes of in-game footage.
The trailer shows off the game’s four-player multiplayer, wherein the person holding the Wii U tablet has a separate screen they can use to manipulate the environment. At one point they slide a platform via touchscreen, allowing the rest of the party to progress.
In terms of graphical capabilities it seems to be on par with what we’ve seen from recent PS3 and Xbox 360 games. Rayman Legends boosts an all new “epic rendering engine,” which makes everything look a touch more 3D than in Rayman Origins. You’d be hard pressed to tell the difference though, as the art style is very much in keeping with the last game.
Perhaps the most unique feature shown is the Wii U’s “near field communication” technology, wherein players can place figurines on top of the Wii U tablet that are then converted into the game. A smiling heart model translates into extra health, while a Rabbid toy adds what appears to be Rabbid enemies. Why would you want to add extra enemies to your game, you may ask? Because they’re friggin’ adorable, that’s why! The trailer also suggested Assassin’s Creed’s Ezio will have some role in the game, as the trailer ends with an (over)actor reaching for a figure of him.
Other new features include online multiplayer, the ability for friends to set challenges for each other, and all new playable characters, including a buxom viking lass.
While the trailer has been removed from youtube, it’s currently available elsewhere. Check it out ASAP, before it gets taken down.
