The Museum of Art and Digital Entertainment Starting its 24-Hour Game Beating Fundraiser

The Oakland-based institution is setting a $20,000 pledge goal to keep the lights on

This seems like an interesting opportunity for those of you out there looking to preserve gaming history and maybe pass a little along to the next generation of gamers: the Museum of Arts and Digital Entertainment (MADE) is holding a 24-hour fundraiser from today through Saturday where participants at the Oakland location will attempt to beat one of their favorite games, in the hopes of earning donations from the community to support the next six months of operations at MADE.

Curating our video game history is an admirable endeavor, and from the sounds of it, MADE is attempting to fill that role on the West Coast with an archive of classic titles across older consoles and learning/enrichment opportunities for young gamers interested in MADE.

Here are some of the key details from the event:

Oakland – April 27, 2012 – The Museum of Art and Digital Entertainment(The MADE) will kick off its 24-Hour gameplay marathon this afternoon to help complete its Level 2 fundraising goal of $20,000. The fundsraised will pay for operation of the MADE for six months. As a non-profit video game museum, the MADE will use these funds tocontinue its free programming classes for kids, and to keep the lights on for the Museum’s events, lectures and tournaments.

The game-beating marathon will begin on Friday afternoon, 5 PM pacific time, April 27 at the Museum in Oakland. Volunteers have signed up to beat their favorite games during an at least 24 hour period into Saturday, April 28. The marathon will begin with Final Fantasy Mystic Quest and Super Metroid on Super Nintendo, and Paper Mario on N64 for the overnight shift. More details can be found at http://www.themade.org/node/109

The game-beating marathon has a goal of raising $1,000 per game defeated, with the ultimate goal being $20,000. Any additional funds raised will keep the marathon going until 1 game has been defeated for every $1,000 raised. The event will be video streamed, live, on The MADE’s Website.
