Developed by Silicon Knights, Eternal Darkness: Sanity’s Requiem was the first (and maybe the only) Mature rated game published by Nintendo that I’ve played. It’s dark, gory, violent, scary, and (most importantly) it’s absolutely amazing.
The basic gameplay is not too different than the original Resident Evil style survival horror games, but with a few notable distinctions. Most notably of these is the sanity meter, a gauge that measured how much various elements in the game are messing with your characters head. As this gauge lowers, crazy hallucinations begin to occur that screw with not only your character, but you as well!
Although this amazing GameCube title has been tragically overlooked by far too many gamers, it deserves to be remembered as one of the greatest games ever produced. If you have a GameCube, or a Wii, you owe it to yourself to look this game up.
